Exxon knew (geophysics).  Exxon knows. When did knowledge become a crime?

—  The Light Bulb

A common light bulb: invented by Thomas Edison in 1879, banned by an act of Congress from 2014. – Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007, introduced and supported by Democrats, opposed by Republicans, signed into law by President George W. Bush.

Of course, there are fluorescent lamps, LEDs, and other “modern” lamp types, but they are expensive, and have more fragile manufacturing chains.

Inventorship of Thomas Edison is disputed.  Some attribute it to Alexander Lodygin (1872).  Also, multiple countries prohibited the common light bulb at different times and with various exceptions. (2016/11/16)
