Fake News with photos of Fake Scientists

Updated 01/05/2017: added another photo of the same fake scientists rally, presented as a fact by Poynter, a self-described fact-checker and “global leader in journalism”!

FAKE NEWS: “This is not normal – climate researchers take to the streets to protect science,” according to The Guardian.  The article purports to describe and illustrate a rally, held at AGU16 in San Francisco on December 13, 2016.

Were NSF Rules Designed to Protect Climate Fraud?

Michael Mann et al. claimed they were not required to share code according to rules allegedly made by the National Science Foundation (NSF).  These alleged rules seem unique.  For example, Nature contributors expect scientists who publish in peer-reviewed journals to not only share their code, but to do it quickly:

“Authors and journals should share data and code quickly when questions arise.”

This makes sense.  If the NSF issued a rule against mandatory code disclosure in time for Mann et al. to use it, it might have acted with the explicit purpose of protecting climate fraud.

Wikipedia, a Housemaid for Climate Alarmism

Wikipedia was hit by a scandal in 2009 when the public learned that William Connolley, a  British Green Party politician and avid climate alarmist, was a Wikipedia administrator using his privileges to push climate alarmism while simultaneously suppressing dissenting voices.  In addition to this, he personally edited more than 5,000 Wikipedia articles related to climate change debates.  Wikipedia revoked his administrator’s privileges and the scandal has since dissipated. “the model is right and the world is wrong” – Hansen

This is the best description of the climatist “science”!  Said by James Hansen about his own model in early 1990’s, according to McKibben:

NASA’s James Hansen, who had already done more than anyone else to warn the world about the greenhouse effect, made the gutsiest call, issuing a precise prediction for how the planet’s temperature would shift, month by month, in the next three years. At first he seemed to have missed, and greenhouse skeptics jumped all over the early results, using them to call the whole theory into question. But at a memorable scientific meeting in Hawaii, Hansen stood up and said, “I believe this is one case where the model is right and the world is wrong.”

Although there are enough fools who believe climate alarmists and other Leftist agitators, the latter resort to paying people to participate in demonstrations, and even purchase services of firms, specializing in “organizing civil disobedience.”  From McKibben, Oil and Honey: The Education of an Unlikely Activist (referring to events of 2011):

“Our advance team had been on the ground in Washington for three weeks. It turns out that in a market society there are people equipped to fill every need, including organizing civil disobedience. The crew we’d found, and who would soon become close colleagues, was headed by Matt Leonard.”

“Matt kept saying that we’d be fine with five or ten arrestees a day over our two-week protest; even as the number of people signing up kept mounting, he cautioned that many would melt away. The D.C. police must have felt the same way, because it was next to impossible to get their attention— our team was bounced from one sergeant to another, and none seemed to take the whole thing very seriously. I began to worry they’d just let us sit there, that we wouldn’t get arrested at all.”

If you learned about these arrests from putative news reports and these details were omitted – Continue reading Climatism International files: Bill McKibben, part I

Mann’s SLAPP Slipped

The DC Court of Appeals has just thrown out the lawsuit, filed by the hockey stick trickster Michael Mann against the National Review Online. Mann’s lawsuits against Mark Steyn and CEI/Rand Simberg are still pending.

These lawsuits are frequently attributed to Mann’s excessive sensitivity.  I disagree.  These lawsuits were filed in October 2012, following Climate Accountability, Public Opinion, and Legal Strategies Workshop, held in June 2012.  Filing Strategic Lawsuits Against Public Participation (SLAPP) was one of the strategies, Continue reading Mann’s SLAPP Slipped

Lindzen: Global Warming and Irrelevance of Science

Excerpts from 2015 essay Global Warming and Irrelevance of Science by Prof. Richard Lindzen.

In many fields, governments have a monopoly on the support of scientific research….

…, the powers that be invent the narrative independently of the views of even cooperating scientists. It is, in this sense, that the science becomes irrelevant. This was certainly the case in the first half of the twentieth century, where we just have to look at Lysenkoism [1] in the former Soviet Union, Social Darwinism, and Eugenics throughout the western world [2], as well as, in the 1960s, the unfounded demonization of DDT [3]. Each phenomenon led to millions of deaths. And, in each case, the scientific community was essentially paralyzed, if not actually complicit. …

The implausibility or even outright silliness whereby global warming became global warming catastrophism (sometimes referred to as CAGW, catastrophic anthropogenic global warming) is so extensive that one hardly knows where to begin. …
